What is it?
A Firefox extension that creates a filmstrip of thumbnails – – ThumbStrip, get it? – – so you can see your history, and stop guessing at page names in the history sidebar. You can even share your ThumbStrips!

How do I install it?
It installs like any other Firefox extension – – you just need to accept the EULA first. (If you aren’t familiar with Firefox extensions, just click the link, then click “install now” when it appears. Installations take a few seconds, then restart Firefox to get going.)

How do I start using it?
The ThumbStrips icon will automagically appear in your toolbar. Click it to view your ThumbStrip, right-click to start and stop recording.

How do I get rid of it?
It uninstalls just like other extensions. Go to Tool > Add-ons, select ThumbStrips, and then click Uninstall. Restarting Firefox then removes it.

How do I get help for it?

ThumbStrips Update 1.5.1

Wednesday, May 14th, 2008

Hello All,

We are happy to announce the latest version of ThumbStrips - 1.5.1.

What did we do?
* Made ThumbStrips Firefox 3 compliant.
Check out the latest version of Firefox 3 beta 5 here, it’s great!

* Added a simple way to add comments to your thumbnails
Just right-click and select “comment”. The comments will be saved with the thumbstrip and are searchable.

* Restored the sharing feature on the thumbstrips.com website
Go to configure - Save/Share - Share this thumbstrip on intuitlabs.com. This is a feature that we would love some more feedback on. We just threw together a way to share ThumbStrips and only a few people have used it so far

* Cleaned up some JavaScript errors.

Thank you all for all the feedback and testing that you have done for this latest release. We look forward to learning more from you in the future.

Oh where, oh where has my ThumbStrip gone…

Monday, May 5th, 2008

One of the comments we see often is “ThumbStrips should remember my last session.” The truth is that it does, but it is just hard to find (sorry about that). When you quit Firefox the most recent thumbstrip is located here:

Windows: C:\Documents and Settings\*username*\Application Data\Mozilla\Profiles\*.default\chrome\filmstrips\_ThumbStrips History from Last Browser Session.film
Mac OS X (Leopard): ./Library/Application Support/Firefox/Profiles/*.default/chrome/filmstrips/_ThumbStrips History from Last Browser Session.film
Linux: /home/*username*/.mozilla/firefox/*.default/chrome/filmstrips/_ThumbStrips History from Last Browser Session.film

This is the same location where your “My ThumbStrips” are saved.

We hope this helps you find your thumbstrips and we will work harder in the future to make this easier to find.

Here is some more info on where your Firefox profile information is stored for different OSs.

Thanks,
Jonathan

Test Time - FF3 beta5

Friday, April 11th, 2008

It’s time to take our shiny new version out for a test drive and we would love some help from you to work out any remaining bugginess. After all, it is kinda your responsibility to help since it was you that made ThumbStrips so successful that we are continuing to work on it :) This new version’s primary goal is to be FF3 compliant, so if you are using FF3 (which rocks btw) and want to help out, please reply with a comment below or email us at innovation@intuit.com.

Thanks,
Jonathan

April Fool’s Day Outage (5-6PM est)

Monday, March 31st, 2008

No… this is not a joke. We will have a very brief, so brief you most likely wont even notice it, outage from 5-6 PM EST on Tuesday, April 1st. That means that both intuitlabs.com and thumbstrips.com will be unavailable.

Here’s a tip: not sure if that site you like is down or if it’s just you? Now there’s a way to tell: downforeveryoneorjustme.com

Happy New Year - Let’s kick it off with a new version of ThumbStrips!

Monday, December 31st, 2007

You asked for it and you got it! Thank you all so much for your feedback on our initial version of the visual web history tool we launched 6 months ago. We pored through the hundreds of comments and emails that we received and used that feedback to create the latest version of ThumbStrips. We even had a few of you test this latest release for us (thanks to those that volunteered).

What’s new in 1.5 (get it here)?

  • You can now drag and drop your thumbnails to create your own sort order.
  • Your sort order is now saved with the ThumbStrip.
  • We fixed performance issues (script errors) when saving a ThumbStrip.
  • Sites can be blocked from recording. You can now choose to block a particular page, an entire domain, or you can use the custom option to restrict a subsection of a site.
  • The toolbar has been redesigned for both form (looks cool) and function (takes up less space and is more intuitive)

Please let us know what you love, what needs to be improved, and why. Also, we would love to know what you use ThumbStrips for so others can learn how take advantage of it, so please comment on that too!
On a side note we have entered ThumbStrips in Mozilla’s Extend Firefox 2 Contest. Wish us luck!

Thank you all and have a Happy New Year!

Looking for a Few Good ThumbStrips Testers…

Tuesday, December 11th, 2007

Since its release in May 2007, Thumbstrips has been wildly successful beyond any of our expectations with over 50K downloads.  We have received incredible feedback which we put to good use in coming up with our latest version.  Now, we are looking for 6 of our users that would have fun testing our new version of Thumbstrips that is set for Beta this week.  Please leave a comment (something like “me please”, “TS rocks”, or “count me in”).  This is a first come first served basis, so please let me know.

Thanks for playing “innovation” with me,
Jonathan
